Let’s say I raised enough money and enticed enough people for citizenship. It would be very low-profile, like Grenada or Micronesia at best and on unoccupied land. How could I go about declaring our sovereignty and such?
It would be a constitutional parliament with a non-interventionist foreign policy. We would have our own currency. The constitution would be very much like that of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, but with some specific protections added:
-A woman’s full right to terminate a pregnancy for the first nine weeks. After that, only for necessary medical reasons.
-Marriage is between consenting adults of any gender or amount. No Exceptions.
-No foreign intervention of any kind, except in matters of imminent self-defense. Preliminary actions such as the US-Iraq situation are prohibited.
-Possession and/or cultivation of any drug or substance for strictly personal purposes is not criminally prosecutable.
-The waiting period for firearms shall not exceed two days, and the number or types of firearms one can own shall not be regulated.
-Everyone, no matter their age or socioeconomic status, is entitled to healthcare.
-The media shall not be censored for any reason.
-Free trade is open to all countries. No exceptions.
I’d also opt to put Stephen Colbert’s face on one of the nation’s banknotes or coins.
