Is buying advice given out by CNBC and Fox Business legit?

Day Trading

Whenever I’m watching CNBC or Fox Business, people are always on saying “Now is the time to buy!”. As the Dow is down 1000 points in the last 9 trading days, people are still saying we’re in an upward trend, despite debt and currency worries. This leads me wondering, is this reliable information, or are people on these networks just saying this in the hopes that people will listen and buy, thereby driving prices up? I remember they were saying BUY BUY BUY in 2008 and you all know what happened…

Hi..I always think that if these advisers on CNBC and Fox followed their own advise they wouldn’t be there in the first place. They would own their own tropical island from all the money they made with their investments. I don’t watch those channels.

I would say that any trading advice given by people not working for the networks is not the best possible. Either they expect the opposite to happen or what they say will happen but not to the described amount.

Imagine you were up there… why would you tell people your trading strategies and fave stocks. Ok so you could argue that telling people to buy will elevate prices higher than they already are and this may benefit the guest on the show however the difference CNBC and Fox audiences will make to the market price is not worth the effort.

In my opinion these channels are not for trading advice but for actual news that has little or no opinions attached. The hosts may be more trustworthy but even then I wouldn’t make any decisions based on what they say to buy or sell. Most of what they say is very sensible though so take in their views but in the end it comes down to processing it yourself.
