Minecraft Currency Mods – Help me find the right one?

Asked by: Trader 340 views , , , , ,
Day Trading

I am currently hosting a server with my friends using hamachi, but I would like to install a currency mod that allows us to trade with each other. I have looked for many days for a currency mod, and have found some like iConomy, however, I have not found one that is right for me.

I would like a mod that includes a new currency item (eg. coin) or a virtual account, and which allows ops to distribute money to players, allowing them to trade. Mods like iConomy allow players to puchase things from the server, but I think that this would make the game slightly boring as players would not interact with each other. A system similar to iConomy, but without the ability to purchase from the system would be ideal.
The ability to create physical shops which allow players to purchase/sell items from/to it, would also be helpful but not necessary.

I have also been experimenting with creating a server using craftbukkit, so if there is a mod that i would need craftbukkit for, then I would need to get that server operational

If you know of any mod which could be of use to me, I would be grateful if you could let me know.
Thanks.

*** tl;dr: I need a mod that allows people to trade with each other, but not the server.***

iConomy is probably the best trade system available for Minecraft. Unfortunately, until Notch allows official mod support in future updates, it isn’t possible to have physical objects like coins and instead you can only use the blocks/items available in game (unlike single player, where you would modify your own Minecraft.jar). Also, the only means of player to player interaction I’m aware of is the ability for players to give money to each other in iConomy and the other player to throw the items to them (this isn’t ideal though). Therefore, if you want an interactive trade system, I recommend installing Citizens and having NPCs on your server. They can be configured with iConomy and you can just not allow players access to any commands which may allow them to access any server direct trading, so they’ll have to trade with NPCs. The advantage of Citizens is that you can get NPCs who can trade with you for virtual iConomy currency, or alternatively, you can disable iConomy altogether and just have it so that players must trade using items that they have in their inventory (e.g. use an ingot for money etc..) Also, Citizens has NPCs for other purposes so it’s more than advantageous for a fun server.

Please note, you will need Craftbukkit to run Citizens and there is an iConomy plugin for it too, as well as many others you might like.

I’m aware there are also other trade plugins for Bukkit but I haven’t tested so just go http://plugins.bukkit.org if you want to have a look and experiment yourself. Good Luck with your server.
